Crane Museo Silver Rage: printer settings??

Hi guys, I'm doing some testing with Crane Museo Silver Rag and so far am getting some smearing because the paper is thicker than most others. Has anyone found a set of generally accepted settings for the Epson printers for this paper (platen gap, paper type, etc.)? Crane doesn't have any settings listed on their website but maybe someone else has found workable ones?

    Cheers from Seattle,

    ~cj

And hopefully the settings for Silver "Rage" are a little different from the settings for Silver "Rag..."

John Brownlow did on the 7800 or 9800

I can't remember if he posted them on here...?

you can hunt him down through his website

BTW - I would add that I'm getting wonderful results on SR for black & white.

    This image for example

is a bugger to print in the darkroom. And on any of the matte papers - PhotoRag, Crane Museo etc, it would just look dull, and even with the best RIP's and tweaking, shadow detail disappeared in that bottom centre area, giving nasty dead looking "blobs" of dark ink etc

But printed on Silver Rag (just using fairly straightforward Epson ABW settings) it has wonderful depth, a feeling of layers, and subtle shadow detail that barely even shows up on the monitor) - a real three dimensional look and feel

Hi Jeff, what setting is that you're talking about? Ink density?

    Chris,

I'm using the default settings on the 4800 with no problems at all.

But, I just don't see this paper as a viable color paper except for specific subjects or for a specific intent. The paper base color is just too strong IMO. Looks nice for B&W, but I prefer the Innova paper for that.

    Chris,

My last reply was in error. I was referring to the patten gap, but gave the wrong data. I meant .3 millimeters. This is settable in the epson driver.

we use the standard "epdon matte doubleweight" paper setting, and we made a little profile from a patch test. you've seen the results, do you want me to send you the profile we made?
