Thread: Dagor/Optimo shutter questions.

    Dagor/Optimo shutter questions.

I just received an early 9.5" Goerz Dagor set in an Optimo shutter. The lens optics look clear -- that's the good news. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to cock and fire the Optimo shutter.

Can somebody explain how an Optimo works? Any tips for repairs, if needed?

If it's dead, does anyone have any suggestions for resetting the Dagor elements in another shutter? S.K. Grimes is quoting $400 for resetting them into an Acme Synchro shutter that I supply. Is anyone else besides Grimes machining lens settings?

    All advice is greatly appreciated.

Before killing the Optimo I'l let Carol Miller at Flutot's take a look at it. The website is http://flutotscamerarepair.com/.

I'll "second" the recommendation to send it to Carol Miller.

    9.5" Dagor, eh? Lucky You!

I too highly recommend Carol. She has serviced at least a dozen of my lens and has never failed. If you are wanting to have the cells installed in a modern shutter, I recommend Tim at: http://www.lensn2shutter.com/index.html
He installed a 450mm Red Dot Artar into my copal 3 shutter. He does nice work at a reasonable price. Jon

Alas. Now I know why the shutter doesn't work. The shutter has been removed from the casing. So, it is effectively a barrel lens now.

I did call Carol this afternoon and she seemed quite good-natured. I'll remember her the next time I have a shutter that needs attention. In the mentime, Jon, thanks for the referral to Tim -- I'll look into his services.
