    Gitzo G1258 with Canham DLC45?

I am contemplating the purchase of a Gitzo G1258 Mountaineer tripod for use with my DLC45. I like the size and weight of this Gitzo model and it is rated to hold about 17 lbs. I also like the shorter length for packing it up that is provided by having four leg sections instead of three. About the only tripod I've ever used is a Star-D which is a knockoff of the Tiltall and weighs almost 8 lbs, so I'd like to know if I am missing any important factors. My biggest consideration is weight.

It's a good choice. Check out the Kirk BH-3, Really Right Stuff BH-40, Markins M10 or the new Acratech ballhead as possible heads to match with the legset.

Can't go much wrong with a Gitzo, apart from with the wife of bank manager :-). However, I do prefer the three section legs as they are should be more stable (and cheaper).

Yes, that is a very good choice of a top quality lightweight tripod for 4x5. I'm very happy with my 1228, which is similar.
