Red River just posted a review of the new Canon printer - while there is not much information it highlights a potential issue with this printer:

Before a rumor spreads, please do note they did not test on Canon paper, only on one of their own stock.
I still have not received mine (expected in July 2006), so I cannot confirm or deny these findings.
I'm not saying either that Red River paper is inferior. It is just a little early to conclude there is a potential issue with this printer when the first test involves a non-canon paper.
I have seen what seems the same kind of pattern using a 1270 with Ilford Gallery inkjet paper. The ink droplets do not bind well to the paper and you lose the continuous tone apearance - a clearly visible dot structure appears.
Same printer, different paper, different results.

The important question will be how well does the paper perfrom with all of the popular third party papers? I'd venture that there are more folk that use some combination of Crane, Innova, Moab, hawk Mountain, Red River, etc. papers than use Canon papers.
