    ralph,

    methinks the problem may be something to do with:


    Usergroup Permissions you have to be turned on for each usergroup. By default, Registered cannot use custom avatars.

    Picture Uploading Permissions

    you'll have to do this with each usergroup

    sounds plausible anyway....

    Sorry, it was also turned off in the user group settings, so I just turned that on too. You should be good to go now.

    As for references in posts to avatars, I usually have them turned off in other forums I visit and don't miss them and am not bothered by references (which I don't remember seeing ever, actually).
