The time limit on edits is intended to avoid situations in which people have responded to the original content of the post, only to have it changed later. Naturally, it helps to use the "Preview Post" button to re-check the original werding and/or speeeling.

Well, it certainly means I'll be posting a lot less. One of the benefits of Vbulletin is to be able to cleanup bad posts, among others. You guys need to get out of the mindset of the old software - you have new tools available. For example - don't even think of running an unmoderated forum without putting the ability to edit posts...more experienced board operators using this software have learned that lesson the hard way.

By way of example of an issue this creates, I have a url to a photo published in a thread that is no longer valid, because I've changed the domain structure it refers to. (I maintain 8 domains) I can't update the url, so now the post has a big hole. This will be a problem for anyone wanting to post self-hosted material.

Re: How long do you get to edit posts after posting?

The bad thing about it is that I don't find a way to search for newly edited posts. Absent that, it becomes very difficult to monitor them to check for possible abuses. Most options are set conservatively for now--best not to blow all the doors open at the outset to avoid problems.
