Thread: Nice layout even though I enjoyed the old style of forum.

Nice layout even though I enjoyed the old style of forum.

Good work folks on the successful transistion to the new forum.

I was wondering how I might change my opening view to default to the "Unified View" when I first enter the forum.

    Thanks,

    James

You can bookmark the link to the "Unified View" and use that as your mode of entry.

Also, the old forum URL automatically redirects to it anyway, so maybe you don't need to do anything?

If you bookmark the unified view page, James, I think that will do what you want.

A simple, (and obvious..LOL), and effective solution.

    Thanks

Have to say that I would like to see something inbetween old and new style... btw, is there any way to get template layout for interested (like I'm) to create new "skin"? I have made such think on my photo-community site and people liked that...

Ken - hopefully, it will grow on you, but not like a fungus.

Janko - we'll explore ways of allowing people create alternate skins after the dust settles.

Janko, we'd probably be able to give interested parties access to our test site for playing around with styles/templates. Like Ralph said, we'll look into it in a few days.

I did import a style that does away with some image files, so is a bit faster. You can check it out by selecting it from the style drop-down at the bottom of the page (where it says --Default Style). Pick "Almost No Images"--clever title, no?

It's almost like going from a view camera to a digital camera...hehe

Interesting style with the new forum. I liked the old one and will get used to the new one, along with using many of the features. Somehow, though, it looks a lot like buying a Scion, you can add all sorts of options to make it look really cool, but underneath it's still the same car as someone who bought the basic model. The looks changes but the contents remain the same, it only takes longer to find anything. But then I can select the unified view to quickly see something similar to the old view for anything interesting.

In the end, it was inevitable and ya'll did a great job. We'll get used to it, maybe with a little grumbing at the screen. My only concern now is that you've locked it into one commercial product and will need to keep it updated as it and technology changes. After 15 years as a data/database manager for a federal government agency (now retired), I wish you luck. You'll need it.
