    Crown Graphic with Cambo back?

    Hello all

    I need some advice.
I am going on a trip to India and want to take a 4 x 5 with me. I have a Cambo 4 x 5 and 8 x 10. I also have a Crown Graphic with no back. Back is lost. Previously I took a Crown Graphic but had light leaks moderate to severe. I think that I had film holder incompatibility from what I have read on the forum. The Cambo would be a PITA so I was thinking of putting my Cambo back on the Crown Graphic temporarily. This would allow hand held as well as tripod use.
My lens selection with shutters is limited to 1/CZ Jena Tessar 135mm f4.5 2/Optar 135mm 3/ 121mm Super Angulon. I have barrel lenses in longer focal lengths. I want to carry as little as possible. I will take Fuji Acros quick loads and Ilford FP4 Plus.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Richard

    Crown Graphic with Cambo back?

Does the back fit on the camera? Have you tested to see if there are any light leaks?

    Crown Graphic with Cambo back?

    Hi Steve

It is a simple job with a little black foam underneath for a light seal.

    Crown Graphic with Cambo back?

So you want to put a cambo back on the graphic right? Well, sorry to say - no can do.
I already tried this. It wont work. Unless you are good with tools and make some sort of holding frame and attach this to the back of the graphic (ie, make some sort of adapter).
I made a 4x5 handheld camera and attached a cambo back. email me if you want pics of it.

    Update

I made an adaptor for the back of the graphic which accepts my rotating Cambo back. Works like a charm. It sticks out about a half inch on three sides and flush with the bottom. The only damage to the Graphic is 4 holes for mounting. Easy enough to mask with tape if I decide I ever want the original setup. It is a real pleasure being able to use a hand held 4 x 5. I could be persuaded to make these when I get back from India.

A rotating back is not going to give full fame vertical shots on your Crown. To achieve that, you must have a camera with square bellows. I may be missing something here, but why not just get the proper back?

    Hi Glenn
I just wanted a real portable 4 x 5 to take on my trip and had an old Graflex. My Cambo was too bulky. I realize the rotating back is rather pointless. My choice of components was limited to what I had at home. Dagor 77 takes most of my spare cash.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about the lens addiction thing. There should be a 12 step program or something for us.
