    Sinar pan-tilt tripod head

I use a sinar pan-tilt tripod, which works great with my sinar whose base uses the larger thread size tripod screw, but I would also like to use it with my TLR, which takes the smaller sized tripod screw. The thread size on the head is the larger size, but it seems to have the smaller size on the flip side of the screw. Is that really the case? I can't get it out of the head to flip it to try it out. Is there a secret I am missing, or is the other side of the screw threaded for a different reason?

    Sinar pan-tilt tripod head

It has been a while since I've used a Sinar head, so I may not be remebering this correctly but...

If you look more closely at the top 3/8ths (larger) thread, it should be a threaded adapter screwed onto the 1/4-20 (smaller) post. As I recall, the threaded end of the post under the jam nut was for storage of that 3/8's adapter when it wasn't needed.
