How to make your own light painting sysyem

Since the cost of light painting sysem is out of this world, I plan to make or a t least assemble my own. Can anybody leads me on how and what materials I need? I tried to use a pen light, it works fairly well but only to a very limited appl ications. Thanks for your input! Regards

What kind of light painting system exactly do you have in mind that costs that much? Just curious.

I took look at the Cuda web site (Cuda being one of the brands you had in mind). Do you really need such good collimation? How big is the area you are trying to paint? What kind of precision do you need? Have you considered dedolights (www.dedolight.com)? MaxaBeam is also another extreme flashlight that costs a fortune, but gives amazing portable light output.
