Is there one place on the 'net where I can go to get the "how to" of wet mounting large format on an Epson 4990?

    Thanks

I have been looking at this myself.

The best place I have found is a forum on Wetmounting in Yahoo Groups. There is quite a lot of information there but you should at least be skeptical about the claims, if for no other reason the fact that some people there have a commercial interest in wet mounting supplies and products. The site has a good database and offers several examples of wet and dry scanning and some .pdf files on the theoretical advantages of wet mounting. There is not what I would call any specific instructions, but this is not exactly rocket scient stuff anyway.

Also, go to the AZTEK web site, AZTEK supplies profesional scanner supplies, things such as mounting fluid, film and drum cleaner, mounting tape, clear mylar, etc. You can also find a video file that shows some of the mechanics of wet mounting on a drum scanner.

I'd second Sandy’s comment about being skeptical, but it is worth doing your own tests. There’s a PDF available at http://homepage.mac.com/mach48/FileSharing13.html which shows you how it’s done. Click on the file "LiquidMountingFnl."

    Dan,

Just to clairify, we are talking about wet (fluid) mounting negatives and transparencies when scanning, not wet mounting prints.

Sorry, I didn't realize I had worlds colliding with that question. Yes, I'm talking about wet mounting large format negatives. Thanks for the answers so far.
