    Transform a Jobo 3063 into a Jobo 3005?

    Hi guys,
Maybe I´m crazy but I got my hands on some Jobostuff free. Does anyone know or heard of rebuilding a Jobo expert drum 3063 to a 3005? My idea is to cast plastic tubes into the 3063 and machine it down to the height of a 3005. But what material shall I use, kind of plastic? Will common polyester for hobbycasting do? Does anyone know what kind of plastic in Jobodrums? If this experiment turns out well I will let you know how to do.

The inner tubes are barreled, rather than straight sided.

Not sure how you’ll do that.

The 3063 should come with plastic clips to hold the film or paper in place.

Thus you could use them to hold multiple sheets (at least 4?) of 8x10 in place, based upon my use of a 3063 to process two sheets of 8x20.

You are going to cut up a $500 drum? Maybe sell it to someone that wants a 20x24 print drum.

Don't destroy a nice tank. If you have a 2830 print tank, that will hold 2 sheets of 8x10, load it first, then load a 2870 module, after you have both nicely loaded, THEN clip them together. Put on the appropriate lid and you can develop 4 sheets of 8x10 whatever. The 2870 extension tubes are the most unwanted of everything Jobo. If you wanted to set a world record you could put several 2870 modules together.
I'm the 3rd owner of my 3005, cost me $250. Has someone's name stenciled on the side, looks great to me. If you watch the video about Jobo on Catlabs website, you can see that theres a lot that goes into making these tanks. If you want a 3005 buy a used one, they are a thing of beauty.

The 3004/3005/3006/3010 drums also have slots on the bottom that allow water from the tempering bath to circulate inside the outer shell of the drum, around the wells. This is not shown in the otherwise informative CatLABS video that shows what's happening inside the wells.

Most, but not all. Several years ago I managed to purchase two additional 3004 New Old Stock drums from a shop in Norway. They were so old their labels read "Made in the Federal Republic of Germany." Their bottoms are sealed, with no slots to allow tempering water inside.

And lo and behold, here's a 3010 with a sealed bottom, too:

    Removable, too:

That wreck of a 3010 must be even older than the two 3004s I picked up. Mine look just like newer Expert drums except for a lack of tempering water openings. Their bottoms are not removable and lack the teardrop-shaped depression seen on the linked 3010. They have the typical integral, thicker reinforcing ring around their bottom circumference with a sealed flat bottom glued in.

It wasn't intended as a 'correction,' just additional information.

    Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for information and advice even though my mainquestion what kind of plastic in Jobodrums is unanswered. Feel free to suggest anything.

    Cheers!
