Perhaps no one answered this because we cannot believe a 'restorer' cannot figure this out.
I have one and just looked at it again.
Use a screwdriver and remove springs, then more screws.
Wash with dish soap, rinse and air dry. If it has a grid, be very gentle.
Reverse procedure.
I used to 'restore' Diesel Cummins Engines, their repair manuals were way more precise. No step ignored, each detailed with spec, pic and many words.
Unfortunately, any camera manual is nowhere near that caliber.

Thanks for the tip, I'll pass it on to my friend.
BTW I never said anyone was a "restorer" nor is this forum dedicated to pro restorers.
I thought asking questions was the idea of this place. if everyone was as astute as you say, no one would ever ask anything.
Sorry to bother anyone with such trivialities. I'll be sure not to ask simple questions next time.
No wonder LF forums is so dead... everyone in here knows everything.
Oh yeah I know all about it.
I don't have access to the camera otherwise Id figure it out myself. My friend is way up in Canada, Im in NYC communicating via emails.
Its his first 4x5 restoration he bought on a whim for $50 as a winter project. Seems its in pretty good condition except its been sitting around, leather trim peeling n GG is dirty otherwise in nice condition, no light leaks, he says.
I have no experience with B&J.
To remove just the ground glass, not the whole back panel, I think that I remember that you have to open the hood and remove 4? screws in the inside of the hood, on the metal frame that surrounds the GG, to which the hood is hinged.
Thanks, but I'd rather just watch:
