There are no silver bullets in film photography. Fortunately, you don't need one. PMK is wonderful; I get it from Photographers' Formulary. It's inexpensive, and lasts forever. The results are terrific. It will suit the type of work you do quite well. But PMK is very poisonous; you have to be really, really careful.
X-to works great, too. Very easy to work with and gives excellent, sharp, contrasty results.
So realizing that are no silver bullets and that I really should be tailor developing each of my negatives, I ended up investing in some BTZS tubes. I really like the system so far, I'm getting clean, scratch free negatives. The best part is I can develop 6 sheets at a time but to different times and even different developers if I like. This way I can play with Pyrocat HD or PMK if I have an image designed more for a platinum print.
Honestly though, I'm really liking the Clayton F76. It's free to me, seems sharp, fine grained and easy, is made in Los Angeles (get to buy local even!)
My negatives I contact printed on Lodima with Amidol really came out wonderful. I plan to test more to dial in a perfect exposure with that process though I feel like it works so well with negatives that I kind of shot and processed all over the place.
