You are not wrong. Melaleuca quinquenervia has now become an aggressive pest species in southern Florida where it chokes sawgrass marshes and converts open space into dismal dark swamps.

Very interesting information. Not only beautiful, but also descriptive photography!

I really enjoy this first image, it came out really well!

Big fan of intimate landscape here. Starting out with a Maine woods photo is very Eliot Porter which pushes the right buttons for me. But these are not his style, but do come from a similar island habitat about 20 miles from his old woods.

Here's another one from the Redwoods, not sure if it qualifies as "intimate"...

This is fantastic. Is there any post to get the darker mood, or was this achieved with the ambient exposure? In either event, it evokes a sense of simultaneous beauty and melancholy.

Thanks, it's pretty much as seen, shot at sunset (I had to scramble to catch it before it got too dark.) The only post processing was to bump up the contrast a little and burn some of the very bottom to clean up a few branches that were hanging down into the black.
