You do not need another switch. By default if neither the film nor the paper resistors pull down with the switch it defaults to real time. So, I use a single pole double throw switch with Center off center off meaning that neither is pulled down and the timer goes to default real time.

I had some simple pole spdt in stock, so I used one for choose Film or paper and the second between the first switch common wire and ground.

Alan Ross uses self-compensating timers in his home darkroom, for what it's worth. If it's good enough for him, it'd more than exceed my own feeble skills. $0.02

I am not better with this tool but my results are constant so I can improve my work
I printed some pictures this afternoon, when I started my developer was at 76. I used my cell fan because it was hot in my darkroom, 30 minutes later my developer was at 72!

For those of you building your own Compensating Development Timers,
I've just released Version 1.01 of the code at the usual place:

This is mostly a maintenance and code cleanup release and has no new
features. I do recommend upgrading. Let me know if you find

- This release expands the range of compensated time for both film and
paper to a range of 55F-85F.

- This release add audible warning when you attempt to do compensated
timing for film or paper and the temperature is not in that range.
