    D2 Enlarger

I am not proud about my knowledge in optics.
Many years ago I bought a D2, it came with 2 ¾” cone. I used it with 150mm lens for good time, until having bought from Harry Taylor a 4 ½” cone.
What did I do (without knowing) using the 2 ¾ “ cone ? Image distortion or what ?
    Thanks for consultation.

All the 2-3/4" cone did was to make you use more of the focusing bellows.
With the 4-1/2" cone you can extend the lens farther from the negative, and so make prints at smaller magnifications.
There will be no visible difference between prints made with the two different cones- if you use the same lens each time.

Older D's had a shorter bellows than the later ones, so an extended cone was often useful.
