    Re: June portrait thread

I've been doing some portrait shooting lately, and have one from a June "rendezvous". They are dressed as Hudson Bay Co. traders. Camera was Chamonix 045n, Ilford FP4, and I used a c.1858 5 inch Derogy Petzval. ISO 125, 1s, f3.5, x8 stops ND.

I like the look of this old classic lens and look very much forward to learning how to use it for years to come.

This is great. Is the lens shutterless? I have a 19" wolly that I want to use. Did you just say "hold your breath, don't move", open lens, count to 5, close lens technique?

    Thanks.
    Shutterless - yes!
I used a flash with umbrella behind her on the left. Opened the lens cover and shot the flash.

Great image, sharp rendering with an air of mystery.

Great on so many levels, the emotional aspect alone will make this a cherished image.
The light is perfect, I like the pose, just the right angle to accentuate moms eyelashes, baby's hands are positioned, left on mom's hand for scale, and his right hand to his chin, looks like he's deep in thought.
If this is your family, congratulations!
I'm sure we'll be seeing many more!
