Good one, Thomas. The atmospheric distance you have helps to make it a grand. Clouds always help, too!

I tend to get closer, but I went thru my images here and these two sort of fit the bill...one with my boys in more of the late 1800s Muybridge or Weed style with humans in the landscape (Yosemite national Park) and one without people in New Zealand (photo of a volcano from the side of a larger volcano), although there might be people on the top of the distant one.

    Thanks Vaughn.

I'm thinking of making a trip over Sonora Pass and back over Tioga Pass and would like to reshoot this scene with the 14" Portrait Veritar on color negative for an impressionists rendering and on B&W negative to print as a Kallitype. The problem, outside of the usual weather and atmospheric concerns, is that there are few if any places to pull the car off the road to let other cars pass. Back then I drove a 2-door Echo or Tercel and now I drive a 4-door sedan so a long hike, 1/2 of which will be uphill, will be required. But under the right conditions the view is worth it.

How things can change -- keep an eye on the weather!

SCM -- wonderful light! Everything works in it.

I have a friend who recalls a "hike" that was so strenuous that it was uphill on the way in and uphill on the way out.

So many I know seem to have done that when they attended school as kids.

Thanks Jon. It's spring and I'm looking south. The fog, combined with the late afternoon lighting, created an impressionistic look which could be improved upon by the judicious use of a soft focus lens.

Thomas, is this image reversed left-to-right? I ask because if looking south in late afternoon, the light would be coming from the right not the left. Still, a very nice image.
