Printing in Oz

Allow me one a shade off topic ... do any of you Australians know anyone in Oz who prints using:

- H Tango drum scanner 300 DPI,

- Lightjet printer,

I want to put some 4*5 Velvia under the pump.

Tango scans - no clues

Tango scans in Oz? No idea, but I will follow this thread to find out.

I get my Lightjet prints done at Pixel Perfect. Reasonable prices, but amazing quality - the best in the world at colour management. My work is printed on Kodak Metalic Endura, but they several other types of paper to choose from. (They also run a Flextight scanner, which I'm about to test out.)

The Crosfield drum scan contributed to the scanner comparison on this site was from Australia, as was the Fuji Lanovia C550 scan. They turned the scan around within a couple of days, so depending where you are, it may be worth mailing to them. I thought the Crosfield yielded an excellent scan.

I second Graeme's recommendation. Although I live in England, Pixel Perfect have done real good work for me that still comes in cheaper than London printers despite the postage costs.

Also, a third recommendation for Pixel Perfect - they're very good indeed. They are seriosuly into colour management, and do a near perfect job there.

However on the negative side they do sharpen your images by default, which I think is poor. You can ask them not to, but you need to be doing a reasonable amount of printing with them before they'll remove you job from the standard queue and do it separately. Fortunately, the default amount of sharpening isn't much, but it does remove control from the Photographer's hands, and put it in the labs, which is the completely opposite philosophical approach to their colour management philosophy whereby they say 'give us a good file, we'll give you an accurate print'.

Finally, they are running a Durst Lamda rather than an actual Lightjet.

You can talk directly to Glen (the day to day manager) or Lindsay (the lab uber-lord), which is great.

They are EASILY the best lab in Australia. Way, way better than CFL and Photoking.
