    Metrogon shutters

I lucked out in an early build of an an 8x10 super-wide camera using a Metrogon lens. The shutter was the real trick. It was very thin a guillotine type activated by a rotatory solenoid and by my modification for a T-setting. Below is a snapshot of the shutter.

Such shutters are difficult to find. It is clear the designers had different ideas and now I have one with no electric solenoid, but with (to me) a primitive, complex, rather silly spring-works.

I'm writing to find if anyone else is experimenting with similar shutters.

    Anyone?

    Re: Metrogon shutters

I use a small guillotine shutter for my 4x5 pinhole camera. Unfortunately doesn't look a bit like yours. Secret is to push on the release cord very slowly to open up the shutter to prevent any vibration. But to release it very quickly to close the shutter. Closing the shutter causes vibration, but that happens after the shutter was closed so it doesn't effect the exposure. In practice (except on a bright sunny day at the beach) the exposure times are so long that it really doesn't matter.

Yeah, mine fits between very large lens groups, but we are basically in the same situation, Greg. Lens/camera movement is our bane. Have you seen the pinhole shutters that use a cable release?
