    Focal Point lens repair service (John van Stelten) is CLOSED

    saw this the other day and now my options for getting my Aero Ektar recoated have evaporated unless anyone knows another company performing this service. I knew I should have sent it in earlier....

    Any reason given? I didn't see one on the site.

    Age?
    Retirement?
    Dwindling demand?
    No successor?

    Retirement / age. Seemed to have plenty of work. No successor.

    There are other companies that can polish and recoat if you can remove the element you want coated. In the LA area.

    Can anyone highly recommend another source for careful professional lens polishing and re-coating? I was under the impression that John at Focalpointlens.com was a singular specialist in this regard. I have a Wide Field Ektar that I was going to send him, but waited a bit too long.

    Check with Edmund Optics. I am sure they could do it, it won't be cheap probably, but this sort of work never is from anyone.

    A search for Edmunds turned up this. No knowledge of their quality or pricing.

    I have a separation I want repaired and called Edmund. They said they only repair their own stuff. I contacted a rifle scope repair service (Parsons?) and they said they will repair separations, but I did not ask about recoating.

    Sorry, old thread, but I'm sure you still have the lens.
    Came across this company in Germany: https://www.pstechnik.de/ that does international orders.
    Although they largely (re)-build cinematographic lenses, they do offer a general lens (re)coating service.
    Might be worth giving them a try and report back as to cost... and quality....
    Last lens I got coated was through Arax when they still offered that service: I was happy with their job;
    I have a funny feeling that the Germans may well be a bit more expensive than the Ukrainians, but I hope they're at least faster than what Focalpoint was....
