19mm f/2.8, 35mm f/4.5, 65mm f/4.5, and 120mm f/6.3 Macro-Nikkors which were used on Nikon's Multiphot. Have used no sharper optics than these.

Actually was in the position of also testing/using both mentioned lens brands. They are truly excellent lenses in every way and I would like to say "none the better"... but side by side the Macro Nikkors just out resolved equivalent focal length Luminars and M Companons in a comparison test I did with Techpan film many, many years ago. Practically any of the three brands will most assuraly exceed one's expectations.
They have a very good reputation, but I haven’t used one. Printing Nikkors are supposed to be even better for 1x mag.

If you tested on film there would be so many variables in the test that it would be hardly truly indicative of which was best. MTF, on the other hand, would be far more accurate.
Before you ask, film testing to be accurate, would mean same batch of film, same subject, same exposure, same lighting, same atmospheric conditions, same developer, same developer strength, same wet time, same drying time, same loupe and your eyes equally rested before each viewing. Then there are still more variables.
