    Hi just thought I'd thank you again for the advice. The restoration is going well, so far the reglued joints are holding up and I learned how to French polish!

    I had to take the finish off some of the brass because it had black paint on it, so it's a bit patchy. I found a recipe on the forum that involves turmeric and shellac that comes pretty close as a match.
    In between making it pretty I've been taking paper negatives with it. It's working well. Next I need a new lensboard...
