Versalab print washer - getting the siphon started

I've had a Versalab 11x14 print washer for years. Now, I can't seem to get the siphon started. Is there a trick?

I like the Versalab. No need to recommend buying a different brand (the one you own ... ) Thanks.

There is a small hole on the siphon tube that needs to be open for the siphon to work. I also find that lifting the siphon tube above the level of the washer will get the siphon to start.

The small hole serves two purposes. If you plug it while the washer is running and then turn off the water, it drains the tank, so long as the end of the drain hose is lower than the bottom of the tank.

It's a clever use of siphoning.
