epson V800 scanner 18x24 cm (can't zoom out)

    Question,...
I can't zoom out my scan frame in silverfast 8.8 epson for epson V800 scanner.
Want to scan my 18 x 24 cm glass plates (Wetplate)
When "préscan" my image i stik on the minimum 8% size.
So there is a lot of the plate who is cropt.
Can someone tell me if i am able to scan this size. (8x10 inch) (18x24cm)
And how to reset this size to the minimum so i can scan the whole plate.

Maximum active frame is not working for me.
    ;-(
    Thanks a lot!
    Greetings

Of course you can scan them. Haven't used Silver fast in a long time but it has to be some problem with settings. Did you try with Epson Scan? I never got comfortable with Silverfast and switched to VueScan.

Re: epson V800 scanner 18x24 cm (can't zoom out)

Hi Kurt. No problem - I don't like Epson Scan very much either so I stopped using it. I can't say that I liked Silverfast or Vuescan or .. well for that matter I've never found any scanning software that I like. I upgraded to an IQsmart 2 which I love, but the software is a disaster.

So my solution is to basically treat all scanning software as just a POS tool to digitize the negative with minimal - even zero processing - just get the image into a file that I can input to Photoshop and work with. In my Epson days if I was having a problem with one scan program I'd just use a different one - whatever it took to get the thing scanned without tearing out too much of my hair. With the IQsmart I have no choice, so I use the damned software that works with the scanner.

Anyhow, the only reason I suggested Epson Scan was to rule out the possibility that there's something wrong with the scanner itself. It would probably have been better to post the question in the Digital Processing sub-forum since it doesn't seem to be about the scanner itself, but about Silverfast. Never mind - I think most scanning folks read both sub-forums so someone will help out.

I'd also suggest trying epson scan, if only for the fact that it came with the scanner and is supposed to unlock all of the essential functions of the scanner and be fully compatible with the hardware. Then again, in my personal experience, the Epson software is very usable and effective and I've never seen a good reason to use other software. Back in the distant past I did try silverfast, but I downright hated its convoluted and illogical (to my mind) user interface, while adding absolutely nothing of use to me.

Of course you can, try with Epson Scan with the Area Guide frame in place, it should be straight, then switch to SF.

The Area Guide presence is recognized by the scanner, then it uses a different internal lens that covers 8x10". If not only 5.9" wide are scanned with the highres lens, this has 6400 hardware dpi, while the lowres covering the 8x10 has 4800 dpi. This results in less than the half of "optically resolved dpi", but still an amazing amount of pixels, in fact an obscene amount... in the 8x10 case, more than obscene, I'd say a pornographic amount.

If you are to scan Velvia/Provia in the future better to get used to SF, as for SF you can purchase the Multiexposure feature (very good for Velvia shadows), this comes for free with SilverFast SE "Plus" version included in the V850.

Same complaint I had with Silverfast. It just didn't work the way my so-called mind does. Anyhow I'm pretty firmly in the camp of doing as little as possible in the scanner software and everything else in Photoshop.

So here is the simple solution.
Just relect the whide transparensy mode on.
    Works like a charm now.
Am so sorry, but maybe this can help somebody else!
thanks a lot norbert sokolowski for the help
