    Wista VX, Nikkor 210mm wide open, HP5+ developed in DD-X, north window light with silver reflector rim and white reflector fill.

    evanbaines, really great portrait. The Rembrandt lighting is good, as is the pose, exposure and composition. Thanks to Mr. Parker (Lt. Parker?) for his service to the country.

    Very strong. It is always refreshing to see a straightforward classical approach used so well. The portrait has immediate impact but also grows on the viewer. your handling of the subtleties of the composition, in camera and in printing -- the formal harmonics such as the front shoulder seam and hat counterpoint, the careful placement of depth-of-field, and the attention to tonal juxtaposition and blending between subject and background -- all unite.

    Thanks to both of you! I am trying hard to learn how to make a simple, quality portrait. I'm fascinated by the principles that have remained more or less constant in portraiture since long before cameras existed, and how these principles have been applied to the photographic portrait.
