    Re: Large format

Ansel Adfams wrote the book on this: "The Camera". There are other books available.

I checked Amazon using the search terms, :Book, View Camera", and got several results.

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!

I think what you want is called an Afghan Camera. A large box camera with room inside for processing chemicals etc. I'm not clear on how the prints delivered to the customer are made.

Here are a few links that should help you:

http://www.afghanboxcamera.com/ It has a link to an e-book on making one.

The most common sheet film size is 4x5. If I were you I'd look for a 4x5 camera after doing your research.

Most large format cameras require a tripod. If you want to shoot hand held then you will need something like a Crown Graphic. They are common in the United States and available on Ebay. If using a tripod you can shoot whatever you like.

You really need to do your research before buying anything. I don't know how hard it is to get film in Madrid. Check to see what's available.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Re: Large format

    A few tips:

The BIBLE of large format is by Leslie Stroebel, "View Camera Technique", but it is NOT a beginner's guide.

As to a camera, if you want an OLD look, buy a used camera and save a LOT of money.

As to format, the larger the format, the more the film costs and the fewer film choices you will have. And the "darkroom" gear cost increases with size as well.

As to lenses, it depends on what kind of images you want to produce. I'd advise you to check out:

    Re: Large format

What you are thinking of is a camera that shoots b&w film, and you can process the negative and make a print while the customer waits? Those are called "Afgan box camera," and I don't know of any place that sells them any more. Here's a couple of videos:
