If it's in good shape it's a very strong head

that is a Foba alfae tripod. Many Gitzo Accessories fit. It is heavy and will definitely do the job. The head is a Rationelle Gitzo #4. It holds 17.6 pounds. The #5 holds 22 pounds.

Are you sure that's an Alfae? Looks like an old Gitzo 509 to me

Gitzo made the Alfae tripod for Foba, that's why most parts fit

I'm saying I believe the tripod in the photo is a Gitzo G509, not just the geared column is a gitzo accessory on a Foba tripod

I've used the G509 since the early 90's and am looking at one next to me right now, it's the same as the one pictured above
I used an Alfae once in the late 90's, don't remember it that well but the leg extensions were done differently than the Gitzo (it worked with the Foba CombiTube system and you had to screw in same diameter tubes rather than extend telescoping leg segments)

I did mean to say you were correct. However, for posterities reference, my Foba has the same legs as this tripod.

Interesting, yours has the telescoping legs (beyond the first extension)?

I see, nice, triple extension telescoping

The g509 has 5 extensions (2 extra leg sections)
