    Re: TravelWide Repair Question

I haven't had all the parts out of the Pelican for nearly a year , and I forget things, but it is an older/original model with an orange tube and taking the 1.25" eyepieces. The formulation, focal length and eyepiece specs have changed several times over the years. Bought it used at the now closed Camera Co-Op here in Houston. Came with a bunch of accessories in a beat up hexagonal plastic case for right at $100. If this works out I may think about a better optic for the front . . ."better" meaning newer unscratched newly silvered and iin-warranty. Doesn't have to be a mirror optic.

All hinges on getting the TravelWide fixed for something under $50. Which brings this thread back to the subject of the OP.

I would think that CAD and 3D printing could be an option. I understand that commercial shops can do small parts in brass, aluminum or stainless steel now.

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!

    Re: TravelWide Repair Question

I may be interested in purchasing the part even though my Travelwide works fine. A metal part would be far stronger and of course a great "spare" to have on hand.

I could ask if it is possible and how much it would cost to cut such a part in the metall laser cutter at work.
Does anyone have a CAD file or a picture with some basic dimensions so I can make my own?
How many would be interested and around what price?

That's literally what's being done by another user, please see my posts above. I have spent the money to send the entire camera to him so as to get dimensions and fabricate parts, and we will be shipping a batch to the US for sale to recoup the shipping costs and his time.

Mine is still working but I will happily pay for one of these parts to ensure it keeps on working. I will flag this thread to stay aware of any progress.

So, what is a proper price for a man’s time, talent, materials and tools?
