    The Best all around enlarger?

Thanks everyone... Durst it is. Or Devere if one's near. I'll start looking.

Don't ignore Fotar. Mine is much more compact and user-friendly than either a Durst or Devere, and @ 2000 watts, is very bright and easy to focus.

    The Best all around enlarger?

    Hi Homrich or Durst!

Or Kienzle of they make an 8x10. The Homrich was in the past the german RR of enlargers and also Kienzle was in the same category but for Kienzle I'm not sure if they made an 8x10.
I'm not sure if Linhof made only a4x5 and 5x7 otherwise a Linhof could also be on the top of the list.
    Good luck!

i second the nomination of fotar. who wants to fool around with a beast like the durst at home.

the fotar is a great machine capabable of precision adjustment.

here is a link with lots of photos and prices: http://www.rkequipment.com/cgi-bin/Results.asp?Cat=200

    The Best all around enlarger?

I'd have to vote for a Fotar too, only because I have one and it can be moved and set up by a single person...mostly ;-)

I do have a question/request for any Fotar owner though (sorry if this may not be the right time & place). But I'm working on figuring out the cables and hookups. I _think_ I've got it all figured out, but if anyone would happen to have diagrams or an instruction manual, I would be a very happy person to be able to get a copy. I'd also be happy to pay for any charges involved... Thanks!

The Beseler VXL 810 works fine for me. Used with the 240 APO HD, you can make fine enlargements without fall-off. I don't usually make larger than 16x20 from my 8x10s, but I can probably make quite a bit larger enlargements on the baseboard. Wish I had the room to process the prints! Not sure about this, but I think you can still get the conversion new, although not cheap. Hope this helps, good luck.
