    Does the 410 head lock?

I'm considering getting a 410 head for use with a Wisner 4x5 TF. (I tried 1 ball head (3-Legged Thing) but did not I like it over my Manfrotto 322RC2.)

Once you have adjusted the 410 to the desired position, can each axis be locked so that it will not move?

    Thanks,

There are no locks per se. It is very rigid already, self-locking as it were. A 4x5 wooden field camera won't make it move.

It's basically self-locking. You must unlock it in order to make large movements. Otherwise, you must use the smaller knobs to slowly grind the gears to where you want the camera to be.

The 410 is my default for my 4x5 Shen Hao. Precise movement when I need it, unlock when I need to make sweeping moves.

I use a 410 with my wista 8x10 up to 450mm lens (Nikkor). No problems with movement at all. Even vertical, which is how I composed the attached image (but with a 300mm lens).
