The lowest non Golden coated Dagor I have is a 12" Ser #77617x. The lowest # Golden Dagor I have is an 8 1/4" Ser # 784195 with an anodized aluminum front barrel. The Golden Dagors thus start a bit lower than 79xxxx and probably in the low 78x xxx's. I also have a non-coated 8 1/4" Dagor, Ser # 770769 in Acme #3 whose rear element sticks out about 3/8" less from the shutter than the Golden one. I point out to show that the design changed somewhat over the years and thus you would expect somewhat different coverages. I would think this older lens would have less mechanical vignetting and be better for 8x10. L
Thanks for the pictures, much appreciated. Mine looks like the one in Copal, mine starts 783***. It was being used on a 5x7 camera with 4x5 back. Was thinking it be nice if I could possibly also use it on my 8x10.

Dagors in Rapax shutters are very nice. Much more compact than the Ilex No.3. I have a 6.5" f8 in an Ilex 3, but wish it was in a Rapax 3. My old 8 1/4" (767508) was in an Ilex 3. The only Gold Rim Dagor I have (15cm) is in the 815,XXX range. Very close to the 12" Gold Dot (816,XXX) I have.
I didn't know much about Rapax shutters but seems to work fine, you are right it is a compact lens setup.
I had a pretty nice 12" Gold Dot in Ilex 4 back in the 90's, let that one go, at the time was kind of fond a 14" Red Dot Artar.
Jimbo, why do you ask questions to which you already know the answer?
Cheers,
Dan
Experimentation is for the ambitious individualists. We'll have none of that here on the Internet...
