    Nikkor-W 210mm Filter Size

Does anyone know the filter size of the front element on a Nikkor-W 210mm f/5.6 lens?

I've read the filter size is both 67mm and 70mm, but mine is larger than these two.

I have a 72mm screw-in filter that falls into the front element, so I suspect the size is 77mm. The lens comes with a slip-on lens cap from Nikon that is marked 80mm, but it fits over the entire front element, so I know the filter size is less than 80mm.

    Dean,
Mine is 67mm. 77mm sounds huge, you don't have some sort of adapter on your lens by any chance do you?

    Nikkor-W 210mm Filter Size

    Hi Dean,

The Nikkor 210 that I formerly owned took a 67mm. screw-in filter and used a 70mm. lens cap. Check to see if a 67 to 77 step-up ring has been installed on your lens. If so, it can be removed by completely un-screwing it, allowing you to go back to the 67mm. size.

Mine takes a 67 mm Filter, but I believe there was a different version with a larger front filter.

Larger Filter version may be an earlier lens !!

I've also read the the filter size is generally 67mm. Mine definitely is larger. I have a 72mm filter that the front element just "swallows" up. I tried a 67-72 step-up ring but the element is just slightly larger. There is no ring on the element that can be removed (except for the element itself).

I measured the front element and it is approx. 3 inches across (which equals 76.2mm, so I suspect the correct filter size is 77mm).

Does anyone know of this lens. It seems to be a larger version of the standard 210 f/5.6. Does it offer greater coverage than the standard Nikkor-W 210? The serial number is 74xxxx.

A 210mm Nikkor large format lens with a 77mm filter thread, described as being ex-John Sexton, was sold on eBay just a week ago, as item number 3873800770.

That's my lens, right down to the lensboard!

Of course, mine was not owned by John Sexton, but it's still a great lens nonetheless. $300 is cheap for that lens, I paid a bit more, but it's in like new condition so I'm not complaining.

Now it's confirmed. The filter size is 77mm.

    Thanks Oren.

Interesting. Mine is 67mm. I wonder what accounts for the difference in sizes in different lenses. Is there and older and a newer version of this lens?

"Is there and older and a newer version of this lens?"

Yes, the older one has the 77mm mount and the newer one the 67mm mount. Optically they are supposed to be identical.
