Dang, Jim, that' s seriously beautiful picture of an A! It looks like it just drove 80 years parked in the same place.

Thanks John. Here's another with the same projection lens in Brother's Oregon. It looks like it's 1959 and the poor 'A' has been abandoned next to this old filling station for 30 years.

    old station, brothers, oregon

That was an 1800 mile trip and the 'A' never missed a beat.

But I don't want my love for soft focus to take this thread to an un-intended place. The sharp images from the different later triplets can be superb. And color is a treat.

I shot this picture last year using Bausch and Lomb 152mm f/1.4 on Anniversary Graphic 4x5 (1/1000th sec, HP5+, ilfosol-3) . The lens is modified double-gauss type I think.

Re: Images Shot On Projection Lens Thread

Yesterday I searched eBay for projection lenses and found several. The problem is that the seller almost never says what image format they will cover. And I can only assume that most are for 35mm film - mounted slides or movie so those would not be good for 4x5" film.

Any tips on what kind of used projection lens to look for to use with 4x5" film?

About what the normal FL on your format is will be OK, so for a 4X5 is 150mm or longer... Many are set up for half or full frame 35mm projection, but will cover and you might get a central sharp area for those formats, but focus sharpness will fall off, but that's what you want, right???

The thing that will come up is if there is a long hollow mounting tube behind (or in front) of the lens, that will reduce the IC by blocking the outer IC circle... Many are easy, as the tube will just unscrew, and you can then mount the front lens cell directly to a lensboard, but some will have a solid tube that would have to be cut... Notice if the item you see has a chance to mount by itself to a board (or shutter) and start from there...

The long throw/long FL projection lenses for pro-AV Carousel projectors are a good place to start...

    Happy New Year!!!!
