Help identifying one more item made by B & J Press. Adjustable back?

Can someone describe what this is please and if you see anything missing? It says B & J Press Burke & James Inc. Chicago USA on it.

Lastly, the pen looking items were with it can someone explain what they were used for or are they from something else?

    Thanks a bunch in advance.

It a retouching 'machine' for glass plates, negs or prints.

I also have one, but I use an Adams which really is a machine, as it vibrates.

Thank you so much Randy! Do you suppose those pen looking items were used to do some of the retouching?
