Box storage of negatives or chromes???

Long ago I used to have wooden boxes that were made specifically to store my negatives and chromes. I remember having them in all sorts of sizes from 35mm through 8x10 .... that was all many many moons ago. however, I also sort of kind of remember seeing such bozes for 4x5 and 5x7 and 8x10 somewhere in the past year or so or remember seeing same discussed somewhere.

    Please help this failing brain.

    Thanks

Box storage of negatives or chromes???

    Hi Ted,

Check out the selection of storage boxes that Calumet handles. Look under "presentation" on their website (www.calumetphoto.com). I use/like the boxes made by Conservation Resources. Calumet also handles the Light Impressions storage boxes.

Box storage of negatives or chromes???

    Hi Ted,

The boxes of yore may have been those manufactured by The Nega File Company. Nicely made but most likely not archival due to the wood construction. Eugene makes a good suggestion (as usual).

Beseler also make archival 3-ring binder boxes called Besfile that take the Printfile sleeves. So far, I haven't been able to find them in Australia, unfortunately, so it is good to hear of some of those alternatives.

Printfiles in Light Impressions archival three-ring binders are my favorite - storing film vertically keeps it from getting alot of pressure that you get from stacking it vertically. It is also easy to flip through and find negs - I have a smaller letter-sized lightbox that I can set vertically and just "flip" the pages while looking abit sideways.

Box storage of negatives or chromes???

Thanks for all the responses so far. I kneew about the Light Impressions boxes. For some reasonnever thought to look at Calumet ....duhhhhh.....

I was hoping someone was making a wood box that was so lined that it was archival but alas I guess not.

Meanwhile let me add another supplier to the list of the 'modern' archival solution:

When I ahve done price comparisons in the past they have usually been less than Light Impressions for the same quality.

    Thanks again

Box storage of negatives or chromes???

Speaking of Light Impressions, why do they send out expensive glossy full color catalogues every two weeks with essentially the same stuff? I ordered from them once two years ago, and they've probably lost their profit on that order since then from all of the catalogues I've received!
