Graphene-based photodetector as sensitive as a PMT?

A new use for graphene is being explored: It's use as an extremely sensitive photon detector:

Sadly, the confluence of this new technology and film scanning will likely never happen, because film is not pushing a market for new tech anymore.

But if the sensors become available to the hobbyist, we might see someone 'upgrade' their drum scanner with one, or if they become ubiquitous perhaps a linear array of them replacing CCDs in flatbed scanners.

Graphene-based photodetector as sensitive as a PMT?

The advanced imaging community is closely following graphene development. An additional 70dB of response is revolutionary. Of particular interest is its potential for a very broad spectral response. Germene is another similar material we're watching.

Very exciting, but it is a LONG road from early stage research to products on store shelves. From experience in big pharmaceutical companies---not exactly congruent---ten years plus. At least this won't require clinical trials.
