Scanview 5000 drum scanner

I run my Scanmate 5000 with the Ratoc SCSI to firewire adapter on an intel mac. You need to downgrade the firmware on the ratoc to make it work.
Another benefit to this setup is the ability to turn the scanner on and off without having to reboot the computer.
If we could just make those gretag monitor profiles work ...

ratoc? oh, yes, how is wet scanning on this machine?
sorry about so many questions, but i do have to get informed before i make any decisions about this.

This scanner shines with the Colorquartet software. For a compact tabletop drumscanner, this is as good as it gets, wet or dry.
However, if you are just going to do dry mount, don't need to scan 8x10" and mostly do negatives, I would get an Imacon.

hehe, i doubt i can get imacon for that price, and not a lot pro (and i mean real pro, i have epson 3200 elready

) scanners here, specialy second hand. and this kind of gear i would never buy from ebay etc (probably impossible anyway, due to the weight).
this scanner would be just what i need, i think, my only worry is software, if it's without it (still waiting seller to answer me), there not much to do with machine, i guess. and there is also that dongle protection etc, where to get that nowdays..

just one thing, and this one will be crucial for me, i think: scanning times at high resolutions-does it realy takes hours?
it was posted here in other theme:
"Ten minutes? I can only dream of something that quick. Once I set up a drum full of high rez scans and start ye ol' drum scanner doing final scans I sometimes have 4-6 hours to wait. Drum scanning is many things, but quick it is not."

If time is a factor don't buy a drumscanner. It takes time and is difficult to mount, it takes a long time to scan - it takes time to learn how to use it correctly.

i know, drum scanning takes time and lot of learning. but just for for example: when everything is mounted and ready, how much time it takes to scan let say one mf strip with 3 6x9 frames at highest resolution (in this case 5000ppi, i think).
this scanner won't be for high volume of photos, but it's always better to things are quicker.

one 35mm frame in TIFF16bit at 5000dpi (190mb) is 15-20min.

dessie? hey is that you? is this the scanner you used for all that 4x5 trannies we use to shoot for that shoe company a long time ago? no, it was a 120 slide from a 6x7 mamiya.
