    ULF Portraiture

Thought I would christen the ULF sub-forum with its own Portraiture Thread. Obviously it can be whatever the members want for it, but I thought it would be great to have a image sharing thread that also incorporated thoughts and methodologies of the difficulties of depth of field, lens characteristics etc. Hopefully those that are using ULF will share their real life experiences with the larger formats and what they have done to combat those difficulties. I'll start with an image and come back with some details when I have just a bit more time.

Monty, nice. I hope to have a 14 x 17 Portrait or two to post as soon as I get the carbon prints done. Nice work!

A Polaroid 20"x24", "Chocolate" portrait. "Chocolate" referring to the film type, a combination of P-3 neg, with PP400 receiver sheet and pod. 2.5x life-size, 49" extension with a 14" series III Dagor. Probably shot around f/22. Studio flash/med softbox.
Some people can hold still well, others, you just don't go for the close-up. (unless you go in for the victorian/wet-plate era headbraces, which I don't)

Tracy & Monty you guys are going to make me feel small and inadequate :-) with these nice 20 x 24's! Looks like I'll have to build that back for the 14 x 17 after all so I can do 2024 as well! :-)

"Shirley" 14"x17" Cyanotype contact print from Berger BPF200 film. Wisner 14"x17" Traditional(sold to another forum member several years ago to fund prototyping my big cameras) Kodak 405 Portrait lens, a stop or two down from WO. Studio strobes and large fill "card" (I put "card" in quotes, because it was probably a full 4'x8' sheet of foam core.)

Tracy, I think I have your 14 x 17 film if I'm not mistaken. Beautiful image and the model is lovely! Love the Bergger 200 BTW.

I can't compete with you big guys, but I did give ULF portraits a try while borrowing a friends 11x14 century, however I was in a dark room at night with one 40w light bulb in the whole room, so, 2 minute exposure, 11x14 AGFA Curix X-Ray film in Rodinal. 450mm f/16 I believe.

Jim, yes, when I switched to Ilford, you got the BPF I had left over.
