    Fuji 125mm confused

Am looking at 125mm Fujinons, but am confused by the series letter.

On eBay there a few W versions, but according to http://www.subclub.org/fujinon/byseries.htm the markings should be on the inside of the filter ring.

How to identify if they (on eBay) are in fact the CM-W and NW types?

    Thanks.

Thanks, but I'd rather just watch:

    Mostly 35mm: http://flickr.com/mdarnton

The NW series of normal lenses is an updated version of the W series and offers standard lenses that features an improved 6-element, 6-group design providing complete aberration compensation. These lenses are marked "W" instead of "NW" which leads to a lot of confusion.

It's not just me that's confused then.

    (Thanks for the link.)

the filter thread size should be the best indicator, though i have doubts about that list RE what the actual physical difference if any is between NW (New W) and CM-W (Compact?)

Yes, you're right, best is to ask the seller what the filter size is.

CM-series lenses are clearly labeled as "CM Fujinon-W".

Thanks Oren. I just checked and there is one listed as CM with CM on the barrel.

The CM-W are easy to identify for the reason Oren states . The original W series is also easy to identify in photos because the lettering is on the inside front of the lens barrel, surrounding the front element. The NW series is labeled W, but is easy to identify because the lettering is on the outside of the lens barrel. The W series is single coated. The NW and CM-W are multicoated.

I have the 125mm NW. It is one of my favorite lenses. It uses 52mm filters. Reports on this forum indicate that at some point this lens was made to accept 55mm filters.

Oh yeah. The 125mm CM-W take 67mm filters.

Kerry Thalmann's Fujinon pages are an excellent resource:
