    Re: Toyo 810M Resource/Fan Page

    Hello from Sydney, Australia.

I am now a proud owner of one of these fine cameras. I have a Rittreck View 5x7 with 4x5, 5x7 and WP backs, but didn't want the Rittrreck 8x10 back as reports indicate that it's rather limited, so a Toyo Field 810MII was the answer. I have single-coated Fujinon W 180mm and 210mm f5.6 lenses, and an EBC W 300mm f5.6 that I will be using with it.

    Hi,

I've been getting a lot of requests for the 810M user manual. I seem to be having permission issues on google drive so I put it on my site. Let me know if it causes any more problems.

    Re: Toyo 810M Resource/Fan Page

I just purchased a black 810M and have been able to compare it to the MII version.

Regarding the extra extension of the 810MII version, the most obvious change is that front standard can be reversed to provide more extension. However the 810MII also allows the double extension bed to travel about 7 centimetres further out: just performing the front standard mod will not get the full extension.

The extension bed has two metal studs that screw in from the bottom that limit the forward travel. In the 810MII these studs are mounted further inside than the earlier version to allow it to be extended further. If you moved the position of the studs 7cm inwards to where they are on an 810MII camera the bed will extend further but the studs will prevent the bed from closing fully. This problem was solved in the 810MII by routing slots through the main body reinforcing webs and reduced radiuses machined into the main focussing shaft so the bed can be slid over them. See the pictures attached below, hopefully these explain.

I just modified the front standard of the 810M to fully rotate like the 810MII. Removing the metal trim piece from the black plastic knob to get to the screws was the hardest part. Once disassembled, I drilled out the two protruding metal pins from the plate that limit rotation. They are riveted into place and are easy to remove: from the flat side of the plate, punch the pin centres, drill the tops out, tap to remove. The plate is left with two holes but I can live with that. I considered covering the holes some way but am likely to make more a mess of the cover-up than the original crime. The converted camera has gone from 650mm to 750mm extension.

Note that the 810MII fully extends to 820mm, the missing 70mm is the additional extension of the top bed that needs a separate modification. Somebody else posted earlier that they just removed the studs from the bottom completely, YMMV.

The Nikkor-T ED 1200mm lens has 756mm flange distance, so the early 810M doesn't have enough extension to use the 1200mm (even at infinity) with the front standard mod alone, it needs the studs to be moved (or removed).
