Title threw me as I have seen most of these before.. but what a find to say the least.
Bob, I thought it a bit odd, as well, as I'd seen many of the photos shown in the article.

All those photos were showed in art institute of Chicago not long ago.
Looks like they just chose some random known Steichen images to illustrate the story. Would have liked to have seen what the fuss was really about.
All well known Steichen photographs, why the excitement?
Pretty high praise from art historian and curator Natalie Herschdorfer: he is "one of the top five photographers of all time. He was the Picasso of photography".
Steichen was certainly versatile. There was a book of his portraits down the street in the used bookstore for awhile - one of those older editions behind glass and
key and priced way way beyond my book budget. But an utterly beautiful compilation of his more "pictorial" early style. I don't see any relation between him and
Picasso; that seems ridiculous, and he was more an exemplar of extant styles than a bold innovator per se.
Thank you it is always wonderful to see Steichen's work!
