Have been reading some older Ansel Adams articles and books as well as LOOKING AT ANSEL ADAMS, by Stillman.
Most of these have Adams using 'visualization' to help with what he figured would be the final image at the time he exposed the negative.
When did some folks/someone change that to 'pre'-visualization?
Why would they need to as it seems redundant?
I consider pre-visualization as more specific. "Visualization" doesn't say when something is visualized, could be at any and all points differently.
Seems redundant to me as well. I've been asking myself that very same question for about 10 years.
Visualizing means seeing in your mind's eye what you want to occur in the future. Pre-visualizing makes no sense.

I think we had this thread a while ago... My guess is that some bloggers / press somehow jumped to "previsualization" at some point...
It's more a cinema term, especially with the CGI laden extravaganzas, a friend of mine does motion graphics
and he's always setting up 'previz' animations of complex multipass animations for client input approval
before they do a final render.
Doing it afterwards would be post-posterous.

When you learn your photography well enough, as anyone will tell you, it isn't about the pre-visualization anymore. It's all about the
pre-pre-visualization. You have to see the photo before you see the photo.
When you get really good, there's the pre-premonitionisized-pre-vizualized level.
Come on, get with the program... ;-)

Ah, the language is both blessed and cursed! "Pre-visualization" is right up there with "pre-planning," and "pre-positioning"--the last used by a bureaucrat describing how generator sets were to be placed in locations before Katrina made landfall.... Oh, well.
Paulr has it right with 'post-posterous!'
And Minor White isn't famous because he used the language correctly.
