I have several lenses that have stiff aperture rings, how do you go about cleaning them. I tried to squirt some lighter fluid around the ring, it loosens it up for a few hours but that's it. What needs to be done?

Not all barrels are alike. Here http://1drv.ms/1uDRqVt are Bert Saunders' directions for disassembling and cleaning B&L lenses in barrel to make their diaphragms operate properly.
