They are all interchangeable... And, they can send you a set of example prints for all the colors - for a fee, of course.

The Cone K7 selenium ink set gives prints that have slight red tone. They look fairly neutral in tone unless you compare the prints to those made with another ink set. Cone also offers warm neutral and pure carbon inksets. As Lenny mentions, you can buy sample prints from Cone that illustrate the tone with the various ink sets.

The advantage of using the Cone inksets is that you get canned profiles that are very good. If you mix your own inks as does Armando from the Epson black ink, or use the Eboni inkset available from
http://www.inksupply.com/bwpage.cfm you will have to write your own QTR or ICC profiles, or beg them from someone. This is a less expensive way to use an all gray inkset in an Epson printer, and not hard to do, but it does add another level of difficulty to printing with an all gray set.

Regardless, printers with 6 or 7 shades of gray are definitely capable of finder detail and tonal range when making monochrome prints than printers with the standard color inks.

Ken Lee, a moderator on this forum, has made his own profiles with the Eboni inkset and could offer some good advice on the subject.

it's totally subjective, there is no way to recommend any particular set. Look on their site at the at the representation of the sets, it's the best you can to other than purchase samples to see for yourself.
