Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who won the top prize at Cannes today, is also a photographer.
Just thought I'd mention that his photography has been discussed in at least four earlier threads on this site, going back to 2007.
It's widely thought that Ceylan's main competitor was 25 year old Canadian director Xavier Dolan. In the end, Dolan (on his third trip with a feature film to Cannes) shared the Jury Prize with the grand man of cinema, Jean-Luc Godard. Here's the five minute standing ovation that Dolan got on Thursday night after screening of his film Mommy. Inspiring for young filmmakers everywhere:
