    Smile Howtek D4000 and colormanagement

    Hi,
I recently bought a Wolf Faust IT8 target for my Howtek D4000 and using Aztek's DPL PRO. I'm interested in how you manage your colormanagement with your drumscanner such as the Howtek D4000/4500. Who can give me some advice in this matter?
    Many thanks,
    Bert

Lenny Eiger would probably be the best person here to answer this question.

you need software to build the profile from the scanned IT8. I'm assuming once done you can set DPL to recognize it, but it can't build it.

Hi, I have Ezcolor and build the profile with it. So would you assign in DPL?

There is a section under Preferences for color management.

    Have fun!

So what I'm currantly doing is assign the profile in PS and convert to a Joseph Holmes space. Is that a correct way or is there an other option?

that's a fine (and correct) way to go, or you could find settings in DPL that do that for you perhaps.

    Bert,

It's a fine way to go. However, I prefer the Custom CMS option you have in the Pro version. I balance each negative, color or b&w using Histogram and Curves. Then I create a CMS based on those settings, which amounts to a custom profile for that image. An IT8 profile is not required, altho' you will find people that would disagree. This is the advice I got from Phil Lippincott, who designed it all, and its worked well for me.

    Bert,
I do exactly what you are doing. I prefer PS color management to do the conversion because it offers better control.
And make sure your display is calibrated.
BTW, the version of EZColor included with the Epson v700/v750 also works with non Epson scanners.
