    newb flash questions

this is my first time using large format. i got a crown graphic with a symmar 150mm 5.6. how do i sync a graflex flash to this? i see the m sync so i assume it will take it. but there's no solenoid thing. what do i need for this to work?

why does the shutter speed wheel not move all the way to 400? you can see it only goes halfway past 200

also there's no shutter release paddle, so i can't use the body release. do you think this one will work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Extra-long-s...item35d3896d1c

It does, but requires additional force - there is an extra spring inside for the shortest time; don't try setting 1/400 when cocked and stronger push is needed for cocking.

there's a pc socket right on top in the first pix

use that and set the thing to M

or just skip flashbulbs altogether and use a Vivitar 285 or something on the x synch setting (cheaper, easier, more consistant and automatic)

X2. Get a PC sync cord and set the shutter to X. There's a lot of handle mount flashes that you can get pretty cheap that will give you the same feel as a Graflite or a Heiland (if not the same look). Pretty decent power too. You might look for a Sunpak 511 or something.

If you really want to use a Graflite, you'll need a PC to household sync cord (Paramount still makes them I think, but you can get used ones on ebay). Set shutter to M, put batteries in flash, add a bulb and connect the cord. Fire when ready .
