Movements with 90mm lens on Shen-Hao

I was recently using a 90mm Super Angulon on my Shen-Hao, for which I don't have the bag bellows. When this lens is focused, the bellows are drawn up rather tightly to the camera body. I was wondering if I would possibly be doing any damage to the bellows by using a fair amount of rise or fall (or rear shift, for that matter) in this situation. I've used some rise before, but it's rather difficult to do (I encounter a lot of resistance from the bellows when raising the front standard), and I was wondering what experience others might have. Thank you.

You will make your life easier with a bag bellows.

By crimping the bellows this way you also have to tighten the camera down very tightly to keep things from slipping

Movements with 90mm lens on Shen-Hao

    Hi Mike,

Since you find that you are overstressing the bellows on the 4x5 Shen Hao, with the movements of a 90 wide angle lens, do yourself a favor and purchase the bag bellows. The standard Shen Hao bellows is made of delicate material. Over stressing it could cause it to tear.

Movements with 90mm lens on Shen-Hao

I put my 90 f/8 SA in a recessed panel when I used it on my Gandolfi Variant (which was even worse with respect to using a 90mm) and left it in there when I obtained the Shen Hao. It's a tight fit and fiddly to reach the controls, but saves the hassle of changing bellows if you only need 25mm or so of rise/fall/shift when focussed on infinity. Any more than that and the bag bellows become necessary.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the input. I'll look into the bag bellows.
